Lenovo Z5 Unveiled With the Highest Screen to Body Ratio Ever for Cheap

Lenovo might not be as popular in the smartphone business as Xiaomi, or Huawei, but it has still launched some great devices over the years.
Since its acquisition of Motorola, Lenovo has used the Moto brand for its phones, but that hasn’t worked too well in its local market.
After a long wait the much-hyped (and teased) Lenovo’s bezel-free flagship – the Z5 – is here. It might be an odd name but it takes on from where the Zuk series left off a couple of years ago. The phone offers an impressive design, midrange specs, and a good camera.
It boasts the best screen to body ratio on a phone, ever.

Design & Display

Lenovo Z5 front back
The first thing to notice is its even slimmer bezels and a display cutout on the front. Impressively, the company managed to trim the bottom bezel even further, more than the Mi 8, probably due to the absence of high-end hardware seen in flagships. The fingerprint sensor is on the rear.
Display size is 6.2-inch and on top is a 2.5D Gorilla Glass. Resolution stands at FHD+ (1080 x 2240) at an aspect ratio of 19:9. Additionally, the screen-to-body ratio is around 90% – an impressive number – and there’s also flagship-grade DCI-P3 color gamut support. Its brightness can go up to 700 nits.

Hardware & Storage

Beneath the shiny covers, the Lenovo Z5 runs a moderate Snapdragon 636 but with a massive 6 GB RAM unit. The chipset has an octa-core configuration.
Storage is available in two options, which are 64 GB and 128 GB but both variants get 6 GB RAM.

Camera & Software

Following today’s trends, and iPhone X’s design, Lenovo housed the rear dual cameras in a vertical array. Much like Apple’s flagship, the cameras are placed at the top left on the back, above the LED flash.

The set up consists of 16 MP f/2.0 lens and an 8 MP depth sensor for background blur. Along with an 8 MP f/2.0 selfie camera, Z5 comes with a host of AI and beautification features for better portraits and low light photography.
Out of the box, it comes with Android 8.1 Oreo on top of Lenovo’s homemade ZUI 4.0, with AI commands and screen gestures. It will get an update to Android P, as promised.

Battery, Price, & Availability

It has a 3300 mAh battery that supports up to 18W fast charging via USB type-C. It will be available in Schumann Black, XLR Blue, and Aurora.
Lenovo Z5 will hit the Chinese market on 12 June, at a starting price of CNY 1299 (~Rs. 23,460) for the 6/64 GB variant and CNY 1799 (~Rs. 33,000) for the 6/128 GB option.
