ecently, a report surfaced online suggesting that Apple removed 25,000 apps from the App Store in China. According to Chinese state-run television CCTV, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the App Store consists of a total of 1.8 million apps and out of which Apple has removed 25,000 apps.

Speaking on the issue, the Cupertino based tech giant also released a statement on the issue.

The company said, “In order to reduce fraudulent activity on the App Store and comply with government requests to address illegal online gambling activity, we are no longer allowing gambling apps submitted by individual developers. The includes both real money gambling apps as well as apps that simulate a gambling experience.

As a result, this app has been removed from the App Store. While you can no longer distribute gambling apps from this account, you may continue to submit and distribute other types of apps to the App Store.”

However, the company also added that the apps from verified accounts from business entities can still submit their gambling apps for distribution on the App Store.

Chinese media has criticized Apple in the past for not doing enough for the removal of illegal apps from the App Store. It has also been said that Apple made some stringent rules about the type of apps the company won’t allow on the app store. Last year also the company removed 700 virtual private network (VPN) apps from its Chinese App Store on the request made by the government. The VPN apps enabled users to send secure emails and messages and browse the website which are blocked in the country.
