Lenovo Launches the Moto Z3 and Promises 5G Support Via a Mod

At a special event at their headquarters in Chicago, Lenovo just announced their flagship phone the Moto Z3 which is also the first phone to support 5G connectivity.
Apparently, the Z3 will not support 5G out of the box but will eventually be compatible with a 5G Moto Mod which will become available in early 2019 to be used exclusively on Verizon’s 5G network in the US.

Design and Display

The Z3 carries on more or less the same design language as other recent Moto phones. The back has dual cameras and an LED flash all enclosed inside a raised circular module that looks really cool and unique to the Moto lineup. You also get the connector pins for the add-on Moto mods on the back.
The right side has the power button with the fingerprint scanner embedded in it, above which you’ll find the volume buttons. Moving to the front you have the large 6.01-inch Super AMOLED screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9.
It’s a Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160x1080p and to top it all off, it’s protected by the aging Gorilla Glass 3.
As always, the phone is splash resistant and should be fine in the occasional dip or the rain.

Performance

On the performance front, the Z3 has some decent numbers but nothing that will give other phones a run for their money.
The Z3 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core chipset along with 4GB of RAM. Internal memory is 64GB but you can further expand it up to 2TB with a microSD card.

Cameras

One of the dual rear-facing cameras is a 12MP unit with a f/2.0 aperture whereas the other is also a 12MP sensor but it’s a monochrome sensor. Video recording is limited to 4K Ultra HD at 30fps.
The front camera is an 8MP sensor with a f/2.0 aperture and an ultra-wide 84° lens. The front camera’s video recording is limited to 1080p at 30fps.

Battery, Pricing, and Availability

The Z3 uses a 3,000mAh battery unit and while Motorola says it can easily provide a day’s usage, we are a bit skeptical about it. What we do trust is that Motorola includes a 15W TurboPower charger inside the box so you do get faster charging times. Wireless charging is also included.
The Moto Z3 will cost $480 at its launch on 16th August. So far availability is limited to the US, especially to Verizon and there’s no word on whether it will reach Pakistan or not.
